What Is Maca Powder and How Is It Produced?

Known as Peruvian ginseng, it is a root vegetable with a leafy herbaceous soil similar to the radish or turnip family. Maca root grows in Peru's Andes at an altitude of 2500 to 4000 m. It is known that the Inca soldiers, the oldest civilization in South America, used maca root to maintain their strength and endurance. It has been used by the Peruvian people for centuries as both a food and a medicinal plant.

Maca roots are manually extracted using a small hoe called a cashu to prevent damage, then dried naturally under the sun for 10-15 days.

The carefully selected dried maca roots are weighed and cleaned, then taken to the local processing plant. These roots are rewashed, disinfected and cut into small 10 mm strips before being completely dried under humidity control. The dried strips are finely ground and pulverized.

Maca Powder is a good source of protein, fiber, magnesium and calcium. Dry Green Maca Powder also contains B vitamins, iron, zinc, copper, iodine and lignins.
